Louis Rée, son of a factory owner, studied piano and theory at the conservatories in Geneva (1879/80) and Stuttgart (until 1884). In 1885 he went to Vienna to receive lessons from Theodor Leschetizky (piano) and Robert Fuchs (composition). In 1888 the pianist Susanne Pilz , whom he married in 1889, took part in one of his concerts in Vienna.
Together with his wife, he undertook very successful concert tours as a piano duo through the cities of Stuttgart , Hamburg , Leipzig , Berlin , Prague and Dresden until around 1917 , during which his own compositions were performed alongside a wide repertoire. In 1914, Louis Rée became a piano and composition teacher at the New Vienna Conservatory , where his wife also gave piano and singing lessons.
