Alexander Abramsky studied piano with Igumnov and composition with Catoire. From 1922 undertook further studies with Miaskovsky at the Moscow Conservatoire, graduating in 1927. Abramsky was at the forefront of musical experimentation during his early years, but later developed a style more balanced between the traditional and the new.
