Mikhail Mikhailovich Chernov ( April 10 ( 22 ), 1879 , Kronstadt – July 6, 1938 , Leningrad ) – Soviet composer and music teacher, professor ( 1918 ), Doctor of Art History ( 1938 ).
Studied at the Physics and Mathematics Department of St. Petersburg University , graduating in 1903. Then in 1906, he graduated from the St. Petersburg Conservatory in composition. A student of N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov and A. K. Lyadov.
In 1910-1938 he taught composition and orchestration theory at the St. Petersburg (later Petrograd and Leningrad) Conservatory. In 1930-1937 he was head of the instrumentation department. He trained a number of talented musicians and composers, including Lev Abe , A. V. Gauk , A. S. Zhivotov , Kh. S. Kushnarev, E. A. Mravinsky , E. I. Ovchinnikov , P. B. Ryazanov , and others.
