The alphabet figures into this concept book by the duo who created Read Anything Good Lately? (2003), since each page leads off with a large-case and small-case letter. But the main purpose here is to show the many uses of numbers in our daily lives. A typical page uses minimal text, just the two letters and a related phrase, from A a / 23-B / apartment number to Z z/ 19117/ ZIP code number. Though the types of numbers are not discussed in the book, teachers with curriculum units on cardinal, ordinal, and nominal numbers will find it a good source of examples. Each entry features a colorful painting, usually including happy children in the midst of an activity, such as posing for a class picture or counting out Halloween candy. A useful addition to picture-book collections.
